About the NYWO

Our Vision and Values

The NYWO seeks to bring exhilarating and inspiring musical and cultural experiences to young wind, brass, and percussion players from all backgrounds, as well as to safeguard and promote this important and precious part of the UK’s cultural and musical heritage - i.e. the wind orchestra genre.

Regular residential and non-residential courses enable young musicians to grow and learn, both musically and socially, from those at the top of their profession, as well as from their peers. Through careful planning and promotion of performances we aim to reach the broadest possible audience, and to engage with those who might otherwise remain unaware of the vital part the wind orchestra genre plays in our national identity.

It is of the utmost importance that this vision is realised in a way that ensures, as far as possible, the safety (both physical and emotional) and well-being of the young people in our care, as well as our musical and other staff, and that all who attend our concerts and performances feel welcome and valued. The NYWO operates on values of mutual respect and trust, passion and innovation, integrity and collaboration, and a commitment to the highest possible standards in everything that we do.
